Gusho-run, Sugar

2022 · Candy · Installation

Gusho-run, Sugar transforms the image of the fruit fly into an enlarged, candy-like form. Using 3D printing and mold casting, each fly is rendered in translucent, edible material—bright, alluring, and unsettling. Scattered across the surface like fallen insects, the forms evoke the quiet aftermath of contamination and decay.

Influenced by Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, the work reflects on ecological fragility and the seductive surfaces of consumer culture. The title references Gusho-run, an ancient guardian spirit of animals, situating the piece between myth and environmental crisis, sweetness and mortality.
